The Inca Stairway on La Isla del Sol

The Inca Stairway climbs from the shores of Lake Titicaca to the central ridge of la Isla del Sol. It is over 500 years old and was the principal route taken by Incan pilgrims on their way to the most sacred sites of the empire that are located on this island.

The second photo shows one of the streets in the village of Yumani and its adobe walls in front of a backdrop of terraced fields. The scene is from the driest season of the year. Within weeks, these fields will be planted, the rain will begin to fall and they will be covered with fields of potatos, quinoa and corn.
